BE BOLD NOW!
Nonprofit organizations are doing the important work of our community in so many ways. They need the commitment and thoughtful input of people like you, who care about their community. UC students can lend a hand in ways that put your passion into action, PLUS make valuable connections for your career.
Leadership Council for Nonprofits is partnering with The Warren Bennis Leadership Institute to encourage taking your volunteering to a new level by expanding your career, meeting new people, AND giving back to your community.
OVERVIEW:
Nonprofits are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors responsible for many things including general oversight of the organization and ensuring the nonprofit has ample resources to advance its mission. Included in that structure are often two opportunities for Bearcat students or recent grads: a Young Professionals Group or a Board Committee. Both allow you to start your leadership track with a nonprofit.
OPPORTUNITIES:
A Young Professionals Group is a group of early-career individuals who commit to contributing their time, talent, and/or treasure to a nonprofit organization. The structure often includes meetings built around social and volunteer events encouraging networking.
Board Committees are usually focused on specific categories like public relations, finance, and special events including volunteer recruitment or fundraisers. Serving on a committee is a great way to start your leadership track, especially if you have limited time.
EXPLORATION:
The first and most important step is connecting with a nonprofit you are passionate about. Interested in serving, but don’t have one in mind?
Leadership Council for Nonprofits advocates for more than 200 local organizations making a huge impact of our community. Click here to explore by category and see what could be a good fit for you and your passion. We encourage you to contact them directly and see if there are opportunities for you to get involved.
Another option is our exclusive BOLD listing of current board openings at our Leadership Council member organizations. While these are usually focused on volunteers who have already started their careers, there might be opportunities for you. These listings include direct contact information with the nonprofit. Just like finding the perfect job, make sure the group you join is a good fit for you and you understand how to best help their mission.
Once you join, make it count!
