PBPO has a website packed with legal information that includes both foundational information and updated topics to help understand the fast-moving changes in the nonprofit world.
I encourage you to save the home page in your “Favorites” and check often. While this information is valuable for all board members and staff, in my experience, it’s especially relevant for Board leadership.
2025 Landscape: Resources for Nonprofits
Not Just a Rubber Stamp video. As we discussed, board service is powered by more than just good deeds. Individual board members are obligated to meet real legal requirements regardless of the size of the organization. This is a great video from Pro Bono Partnership of Ohio (PBPO) for ALL board members to view.
I’m on a Nonprofit Board- Now What?
This is PBPO’s library of 6 excellent videos on a variety of good governance topics for all board members including your pre-work video, Not Just a Rubber Stamp.

I‘m a big fan of the work done by the nonprofit, BoardSource. This page has a great listing on a variety of topics, with an emphasis on best practices for the staff/board partnership. You’ll find free printable guides, with more resources available with membership. Our BOLD program has ordered various books from BoardSource. This resource page is clearly arranged by topic.
Some of my favorite printable guides:
