Nonprofit Compensation & Benefits Study

Leadership Council commissions a comprehensive study of nonprofit compensation and benefits in even years. The 2026 survey will be conducted in March 2026 and the completed study will be available in early summer.

Leadership Council is delighted to welcome back Dean Dorton as Presenting Sponsor of our 2026 Nonprofit Compensation & Benefits Study. They have sponsored this biennial study since 2018.

This comprehensive survey is a bit more extensive than others as it provides regional data points — very important and useful for benchmarking.

  1. It includes both compensation AND benefits, including paternal leave, flexible work, and sabbatical policies.
  2. It has a comprehensive list of job descriptions (80+) — other surveys have general categories.
  3. Any Tristate nonprofit who completes the survey (even if not all the questions apply) will receive the final study for FREE. If not, you can purchase the report when it is complete,  $150 for Members of Leadership Council and Dean Dorton clients and $300 for all others.

Here are a few points of interest from the last (2024) survey:

  • Responding organizations cover a wide range of missions and services, from social service, health, arts & culture, community development, elder care, and more.
  • 68% of agencies participating in this survey had 50 employees or less
  • 75% of agencies are located in Hamilton County, 15% in Northern Kentucky, and 10% in other Ohio counties or Southeast Indiana counties
  • 43% of respondents have budgets under $1 million
